Promoting Swiss-American Studies since 1927
SAHS Centennial 2027

On July 4, 1927, the Swiss American Historical Society was founded in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Jacques Holinger (born in Liestal, Canton Basel-Landschaft) was one of the founders and first President. 2027 will be a very special year for us as we celebrate our centennial. We have created a committee to do outreach and consider how we should commemorate our 100th anniversary.

Our annual meeting we be held from October 1-2, 2027 in Chicago. It will begin on Friday afternoon with the Chicago River architecture boat ride tour and in the evening, an aperitif at the Swiss Consulate of Chicago's Residence. The annual general meeting will take place in downtown Chicago (venue TBD) on Saturday, October 2nd. Details will be shared as we finalize plans.

We also plan to have a special issue of the SAHS Review with interviews of longtime members and a comprehensive history of the Society. Other possibilities include a traveling museum exhibit, permanently endowing the Leo Schelbert Award, and creating merchandise with the centennial logo.

An exciting opportunity we are pleased to offer to members and non-members is a trip to Switzerland in September 2027! See details below.
